new layout!
I enjoy this layout - it's very simple. And, yes, maybe a little vain. What? I love that pic Pawel took of me 3948903284 million years ago.

Pawel really needs a website.

Also, I've updated my list from yesterday... I accomplished nothing :[

Thank you, Digg. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I was browsing Digg.com today as usual and I found an article whose author must share the same love of Yahoo Answers as I do. The article, from Kontraband.co.uk, includes the best/worst (depending on how you choose to label them, and your sense of humor) of Yahoo Answers.

Questions include:
-I caught my son having sex with a guy and I think he might be gay. Is there a definitive way I can tell?

-Cheerleaders Y du u think their stupid? (written by a Cheerleader)

-Help my GF is a preganent virgin!!!!!!????

Please, please, read it.

Check out the article here.

Check out the post I made previously about Yahoo Answers here.

22
Today, I turned 22. I don't feel much different, though. I guess that will happen after you stop having birthdays that are significant like 16, 18, & 21.

It was a nice, quiet, family get-together, which was cool. Suzi made a really pretty cake [edit: added pics!].

Looking forward to Mish's tonight. I haven't had a proper night out in a while, and it's about time. Good thing I don't have to work tomorrow!

Spring Show with Gelato, Baby!
This week my bosses at W&H are in San Francisco for the Academy of Art University's prestigious Spring Show, and I must admit I am super jealous (and I also have a craving for gelato...) They're teaming up with hilarious and straight-forward freelance journalist and gelato connoisseur, Alissa Walker of Gelatobaby, to promote and liveblog the event that tons of big companies look forward to every year.

The AAU Spring Show is a day where the best of the best in design (graphic, fashion, digital, industrial, etc.) get to showcase their work while prospective employers look on. Every year, internships and jobs are awarded to students with excellent work, so it's a big day for them!

This year, because of Alissa Walker's presence, the AAU is handing out free gelato, yumm!

Check out Alissa's Spring Show with Gelatobaby website to see all the action and maybe pick up some inspiration!

lastday.
Woo! Today is the official last day of my spring semester at Tunxis. I have an exam later tonight, and then I am o-u-t, out! I'll be graduating in two weeks, but then taking a summer class, so that will be sort of bittersweet.

Yesterday was the last official day for R025 before the remodel, which I am stoked about. Morale has been getting low for a few months, so I'm hoping the remodel will sort of revitalize our passion. I'm pretty sure it will mine. : ] Taking down the store yesterday was actually fun. Got to shrinkwrap a microwave, Dave T., and Jeff. Sani & I are being rewarded smoothies via Todd for the Jeff-wrapping. Gooood stuff. Jenna and I shared a rollercoaster ride on the way back from the offsite storage thanks to Brian C. and one of those big moving-cart things. I'll miss those folks for three weeks...

Also, today, Stan & I have been together for 3/4 of a year. Aww <3. :D

Must get back to studying though...

Why I Love Yahoo! Answers.
Just read these:

Does He Like Me? (an international student re: his professor)

Celebs Only Help Darfur Because It's Trendy!

How is Babby Formed? (A classic)

OMG My friend and I Can't have the same bag! HELP!
..I may or may not have answered this one... o_O

Here's a question I want you to answer... Do people using Yahoo! Answers not have friends to get advice from? Also, where the hell did they learn grammar/spelling? (Or rather, neglect to learn it...) Yahoo! Answers even tells them if they misspell something, yet they STILL continue to misspell. How idiotic are these people?

(Okay, so that was three questions).

Cold Stone & AVON.
First thing: Cold Stone Creamery & Tim Horton's have co-branded. This means that, wherever there is a Tim Horton's, there is a Cold Stone. This means there is a Cold Stone right down the street from me. YES!

Check out the press release here.

In other news, I am going to start selling AVON in hopes to earn some money on the side to put away for paying off my tuition loans when I graduate. I just have to hope I don't spend all the money I make on AVON products. I'll primarily be doing it online, so it shouldn't be too much added stress on top of school, Apple, and my internship.

...Damn, I am one busy lady.

Mom.
Mother's Day? Can't say I'm a huge fan. Other than bringing me to life, my mom hasn't given me a whole lot. For one thing, she's been in prison for half of my life, which has made our relationship quite strained, as you would imagine. Even when she wasn't in prison? On the weekends we'd spend at her house, she'd usually stick us with a babysitter so she could go to dance clubs.

She says prison has changed her, but I don't know if I'm convinced yet. I have conflicting feelings on this matter. So, no I won't be buying flowers or sending cards to anyone. Maybe I'll return to this tradition when she gets out, but can flowers say what I really should be saying to her? "Hey, I don't really know how to feel about you, because you've spent so much of my life NOT being my mother..." No, I think I'd rather just come out and say that and skip the flowers.

Still, I think it's important to be thankful to your parents. I don't think we should designate one day (or, I guess two, since there isn't just Parents Day... it's Mother's Day then Father's Day). Why can't we just always be thankful? Unless they don't deserve it...

Anyway, have a good day, whether you're celebrating your mom/grandma/sister/aunt, etc., or not. :]

Landfill.
I was introduced to this really neat publication yesterday at my internship. It's called LANDFILL, and it's to be a yearly publication. The first issue, "Second Chances" tells the stories of 13 different men and women who felt like they were given a second chance at life. All of the stories are moving, though not all of them involve near-death experiences. One story is about a small-town young woman who moves to California and gets the chance to "reinvent" herself.

The story behind the name, and the first issue, is giving paper a second chance at life. The designer and printer behind the publication are both eco-conscious, and run their businesses as such. The printer, Greg Barber, saw a broadcast on TV about how 60% of landfill problems in the U.S. were caused by paper waste. He converted his business to using post-consumer waste paper (recycling paper = giving it a second life). So, LANDFILL is a demonstration of his corporate identity as "the EcoFriendly Printer," and the amazing design strategy of Brian Ponto.

The thirteen stories were written on paper that is pressed with wild flower seeds and the ink used was a non toxic toner. The stories were then buried in various locations throughout New York. After the paper breaks down, the wild flower seeds will be planted, giving new life to the physical stories themselves. The actual publication was printed on Mohawk's 100% PCW (post-consumer waste) paper.

Isn't that such a cool idea? It makes me want to do something like that. The paper probably wouldn't be hard to find, but I don't have access to non-toxic toner. Hmm... I wonder if Pawel has non-toxic toner at Alliance?

Check out the online version of LANDFILL: Second Chances here.

better banking.
Banknorth has decided that since I'm such a "loyal customer," they're going to start charging me fees for my checking account that, until now, was free. Oh! But, again, because I'm that loyal of a customer, they will be waiving my account fees for this one special month of May!

Pfffft. Goodbye, Banknorth. Helloooo free student checking at Bank of America<3.

This banking crisis is really bullshit. They're the ones that got us in to this mess - giving out loans to anyone with a name, address and social security number. And now that the country is in a huge economic hole that these banks dug for us, who are we bailing out?? NOT PEOPLE WHO NEED TO GO TO SCHOOL!!!

I had so much hope for you, Obama :[
Give me tuition money.

childhood disorders.
Reading about childhood disorders is really, really depressing. And, of course, the cause is usually "inadequate parenting." There really should be some sort of test one would have to take in order to become a parent, because CLEARLY brain power is not enough in a tragically growing number of cases.

Stan thinks there should be some form of sterilization. I think we should just provide free birth control. Oh, and keep crazy right-wing religious fundamentalists out of our school systems because they still, mistakenly, think that abstinence-only sex education works. If it worked so well, we wouldn't have so many people on welfare, or so many crazy right-wing religious fundamentalists (who never practice what they preach, anyway, so they really should just give it up).

...Sorry. Heated issue.

script.
I finally found & edited my script. I sent it to Mickey & Dave... I hope they want to be in it. If I'm going to film this, I've got to start soon. Beaches will start opening up for good, and we need to film at Rocky Neck before it fills up with tanners and umbrella faux-pas.

I am super excited about it. And it'll be a really great opportunity to learn more about editing, directing, and filming, too.

Today would have been a good day to film, actually...

...I should probably find out the legality of filming on a public beach...

[edit/update]:

"License Fees
$25.00 Fee for Not for Profit organizations with section 501(c)(3) status
$500.00 Commercial License Fee
$500.00 Filming License Fee"

EFFFF That. I will just have to be sneaky, I guess. ;]
